Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
This Sanctuary is located in Central part of Uganda in Nakitoma – Nakasongola district along Kampala- Masindi- Gulu highway on your way to Murchison Falls National Park, it was established to reintroduce the already elapsed Rhinoceros back to Uganda, both Black and White Rhinoceros were residents in Uganda but due to factors which include Civil wars, hunting, poaching and more led to their high diminishing rate up to complete zero.
The reason for locating Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola is that these wild animals feed on special species of grass which are mostly found in the suburbs of Nakasongola- Nakitoma. The first breeds of the Rhinoceros to be arrived in Uganda were got from the Solio ranch in Kenya and the rest were donated by the Disney Kingdom of United States of America.
Rhinoceros are herbivorous ground dwelling animals characterized as browsers; they only feed on grass plus some tree leaves which tend to be on the ground, these Rhinoceros are characterized into two different species which include White and Black Rhinoceros but currently Uganda only owns the White Rhinoceros in the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Tracking Rhinoceros in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is mostly done on foot and it costs $50 USD per person.
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
This Sanctuary is located on the Waters of Lake Victoria in Kome Islands, it was established to provide home to the rescued un cared and orphaned Chimpanzees. Over forty-nine Chimpanzee Primates are currently habituated in the forests of Ngamba Island, this island is characterized with tropical rain forest and Savannah grasslands in some parts with other primates and species like Monkeys, baboons, chameleon, insects like Butter flies, tsetse flies and more. Since it is located on the Waters you can better access it by use of speed boat, local canoe or arrange private charters from Entebbe airport or Kajjansi airstrip up to Ngamba.
Reaching Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary some of the activities to do include Chimpanzee feeding, Care giving plus Volunteering, chimpanzee feeding involves supplying these caged primates with what to eat like Avocados, sweet bananas, Oranges, Biscuits, and more, this feeding session is done at a certain gazetted time and also these primates are used to following this schedule, Car giving involves looking after these primates like feeding, cleaning their cages and more.
